Christ the Redeemer
Christ the redeemer is a statue located at the top of Corcovado Mountain overlooking Rio de Janeiro in 1850 it was suggested placing a Christin monument on Corcovado
and then in 1921 it was proposed a statue of Christ be built construction began in 1926 and took five years to be built. Since then, there has been repair and renovation
work Escalators and panoramic elevators were added beginning in 2002; previously, in order to reach the statue itself, tourists climbed more than 200 steps as the last
stage of the trip. In 2006, to mark the statue’s 75th anniversary, a chapel at its base was consecrated to Our Lady of Aparecida, the patron saint of Brazil.
Getting to christ the redeemer
Catch the bus at Cosme Velho bus terminal get off at the stop before Sao Judas Tadeu which is the Trem do Corcovado station closest stop to the foothills of Corcovado mountain
if there is no direct bus nearby your hotel closest metro station is Largo do Machado which is a forty minute walk you can take a bus number 580 going to Cosme Velho.
You can be also picked up by one of two official vans cruising around the city every day. The official pick up point is at Praca do Lido in Copacabana, next to the metro at
Lago do Machado and at Città America in Barra da Tijuca. From both places, vans leave approximately every 15 minutes, and the price already includes the return transport and
the entry fee.
COG TRAIN
The best way to reach christ the redeemer is cog trainthis trip will take you through
the Atlantic forest to the top of Corcovado Mountain. Train leaves approximately every 30 minutes, and the ride up takes 20 minutes. To avoid queues, buy your Christ the Redeemer

To avoid crowds, it is recommended to visit Corcovado Mountain early in the morning, let's say around 8:30 AM or later in the afternoon, after 3:30 PM
